Our Story

The Meadows

Established in 2024 and proudly serving the city of Edmonton, St. Albert and surrounding areas, The Meadows is a private and tranquil acreage located in Sturgeon County, approximately 10 minutes west of St. Albert, bordering the Sturgeon river.

Engrossed in nature, we offer a peaceful, meditative location for pet parents and families to feel a sense of relief and trust, being provided a safe space of reflection and mourning with the knowledge that their animal has been placed in the best possible hands where they will be nurtured and cared for with utmost passion and particularity.

Our cremation service offers a diverse line of memorial stones and urns as well as the option of nose and paw print impressions, that encapsulate and honour the spirit of your pet. While we do not provide a physical burial site, upon owner’s discretion, our Scattering Meadow located next to the pet memorial centre is open to visit, where you may choose to scatter your pet’s ashes, allowing them to run free through the fields and down by the river that runs along the meadow.

As our story continues, we will be adding a Rainbow Bridge across the river in The Meadows. The most beautiful place for your animals to play and swim together, until you can be reunited and cross together.

Meet Bruce

Family owned and operated alongside his wife and two children, meet the owner of The Meadows, Bruce Tymens!

Prior to his transition to ownership of the Meadows, Bruce holds nearly 25 years of experience in the human aspect of the funeral industry. Beginning from the ground up washing company cars, he built his career into a 2nd generation funeral director, embalmer, and general manager at one of the largest family owned funeral homes in the province. Due to his background and specializations and having devotion for both pets and humans alike, Bruce strongly champions professional and precise client care, while maintaining an empathetic and layered understanding of the grieving process as well as all it entails.

After suffering the sudden loss of his family’s first dog, Stella, the emotional process and experience prompted him to make his professional change to the realm of animals, hoping to provide a shoulder to lean on for others facing the same challenge as their pet matures. Greatly inspired by Stella and her life, as well as his family’s current pets, grumpy cat Gus and two overly friendly bulldogs Olive and Luna (you might catch them basking in the sun outside, or playing together in the grass!), Bruce deeply values honouring the happiness, love and care an animal provides, ensuring that their incredible heart and spirit lives on; while offering their owner a sense of comfort and security.
